Established in 2006, headspace is making a difference to the lives of thousands of young Australians in the area of youth mental health, by:

headspace Canberra is part of headspace Services Ltd. headspace Canberra is an early intervention program for young people aged 12 – 25 years with emerging mental health and/or substance use problems. headspace Canberra provides young people with access to Allied Health professionals and the support they need to develop and maintain the skills and confidence they need to live healthy and happy lives.

headspace Canberra is moving to a central location in Braddon and we are seeking a professionally accredited General Practitioner to complement the mental health platform of our model.

We welcomes expressions of interest from qualified and experienced GPs passionate about working with young people. This position is an innovative way engaging young people with contemporary medical and mental health care. The GP benefits from operating as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including onsite mental health and drug and alcohol staff, and working closely with the headspace Consortium and Youth Reference Group.

The responsibilities of the headspace Canberra GP will include:

  • Attend the headspace Canberra Centre each week for between 1 – 4 sessions to see young people who are visiting for support with their physical and emotional health.
  • Participate in an orientation with headspace Canberra
  • Adopt the Clinical Governance framework including relevant policies and procedures of headspace Canberra
  • Maintain high standard of file management ensuring that all files are stored in line with legislative requirements and organisational policies and procedures.

 

All applications will be regarded as confidential and must include a Statement of Claim addressing the selection criteria as listed below:

  1. Must be a Vocationally Registered General Practitioner with appropriate qualifications.
  2. Must hold current professional indemnity insurance.
  3. Have a Medicare Provider Number and eligibility to bill MBS accordingly.
  4. Experience with and awareness of the types of issues that young people might present.
  5. Excellent people and communication skills and the ability to help young people open up about their concerns.

Practitioners will be engaged as independent contractors, not as employees, and will be remunerated by rebates received through the Medicare Benefits Schedule. Rebate levels will be dependent on the practitioner’s professional qualifications.
