headspace team up with the Gold Coast Suns, Supporting Young Men to Tackle Their Feelings

Young Australian males have the lowest rates of help-seeking of any demographic group and the lowest rates of awareness of available mental health support and services.

At headspace Southport and Upper Coomera, we want to see more young men walk through our doors and ask for support when they’re having a tough time.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with Tackle Your Feelings (a mental health education program for community AFL clubs) and the Gold Coast Suns to bring young men together and support them to understand, recognize and respond to mental health struggles.

With the support of Touk Miller (Gold Coast Suns Captain) in collaboration with a local psychologist from the Tackle Your Feelings program; we’ll take to the footy field for drills, games and to kick around conversations about how to look after yourself and your mates, normalise and destigmatise mental health challenges, learn when it’s time to ask for some help and where to go when you can’t tackle it on your own.
We’ll link young men to local services including headspace Southport and Upper Coomera, and other services on the Gold Coast ranging from multicultural, LGBTI, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services through to drug and alcohol support.

We’ll also be joined by the fellas from Zeppelin Barbers for free haircuts and grab some grub from a local food truck.

headspace x Tackle Your Feelings event is free for young men aged 15 – 25 years on the Gold Coast and kicks off Friday 18th August from 4 – 6pm at Austworld Centre Carrara.

Tickets are available via Eventbrite Contact community@headspacesouthport.org.au for queries.
