Groups

Did someone say free groups?

We offer heaps of peer-led and clinician-led groups for young people and their parents/caregivers. In these groups, you can learn new skills, learn more about yourself, or just connect with like-minded people to feel supported and have fun!

You can get the most out of your headspace experience by joining one of our free groups. Groups are designed to be paired with your clinical sessions, to add extra value to your mental health support. If you're a parent/caregiver, groups are a unique space to find emotional and social support from others going through a similar journey. Some groups are open to attend even if you're not a headspace client, just follow the sign up process to find out how you can join, or send an email to groups@headspacesouthport.org.au

A group can help you:

  • Create a sense of connection and community
  • Make peer connections with like-minded people
  • Share your feelings in a safe judgement-free space
  • Validate your experiences
  • Understand yourself and your emotions through open conversations
  • Learn tips on how to cope from others going through similar stuff
  • Improve your mood

We've got a bunch of new peer support groups starting this spring! Keep scrolling to choose your favourite and sign up.

More information

All of our groups are free!

Generally, to engage in one of the peer support groups, you need to either be a current client with headspace, or have engaged with headspace within the past 3 months. Please note: our social group does not require you to be a headspace client to attend.

We have groups that are run by clinicians and also have peer-led groups, meaning peer support workers with lived experience will run the groups.

Peer-led groups are run by peer support workers who either have lived experience of mental ill health or experience caring for a young person with mental health concerns. Peer-led groups will also not cover clinical or therapeutic content. Our clinician-led groups will incorporate or teach therapeutic skills in group content or activities, to support your wellbeing.

Some of our groups are open, while others require registration. Check out each specific group description to find out more. When you register for a group it means we can contact you if the group is cancelled or rescheduled.

Unless we say it’s a structured program, our groups are flexible. You can come whenever you like, each session will have different content.

If you have registered for a group, the group facilitator will get in touch with you directly to let you know if the group has been cancelled.

Stuff comes up, it's all good! If you can't make it to your group, it’s best to email us at one of the following email addresses (depending on what type of group you're in):

  • Peer-led groups - peer.support@liveslivedwell.org.au
  • Clinician-led groups - groups@headspacesouthport.org.au

Of course! As long as they are a current headspace client or have been engaged with headspace within the past 3 months you can refer them.

“Groups are the best...Sure, they're a little awkward at first...but once you get into the groove and get over those first-time nerves...you slowly learn that everyone is going through their own thing and everyone is so accepting.”
