who we are
Who we are
headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds.
Each year, headspace helps thousands of young people access vital support through our headspace centres in communities across Australia, our online and phone counselling services, our vocational services, and our presence in schools.
headspace can help young people with mental health, physical health (including sexual health), alcohol and other drug services, and work and study support.
What we do
We support young people with mental health, physical health (including sexual health), alcohol and other drug services, as well as work and study support. With a focus on early intervention, we work with young people to provide support at a crucial time in their lives – to help get them back on track and strengthen their ability to manage their mental health in the future.
In everything we do, we aim to meet the evolving and unique needs of young people and those who support them. That’s why our youth reference groups are at the heart of our work, and they play an active role in designing, developing and evaluating our programs.
Our future
As we look to the future, our priorities, principles and enablers have been detailed out in the headspace strategy 2021-2024. The strategy ensures we're well-placed to:
- support young people to be mentally healthy in their communities and
- actively contribute to and shape the whole of mental health system reforms needed to achieve better outcomes for them.
Our international impact
Our impact in Australia has led to international interest, and we are regularly approached from across the world to share our experience in establishing services that meet the needs of young people. Read about how we’re helping shape models of mental health support internationally.
Our commitment to child safety and wellbeing
headspace is a child safe organisation. We believe in partnering with young people, listening, and supporting them to manage their health and wellbeing. The safety and wellbeing of young people underpins our practices.
headspace Charter of Healthcare Rights for Young People
Knowing your rights when accessing support through headspace is important. The headspace Charter of Healthcare Rights outlines what young people can expect at headspace.
headspace Governance Charter
The headspace Governance Charter ensures the effective internal governance of headspace. The headspace Board regularly reviews the Governance Charter to ensure that it remains appropriate to the needs of headspace as it matures as a company and to the community that it serves.
