headspace Fremantle celebrates ten years helping young Australians

It has been over a decade since headspace Fremantle first opened its doors to provide mental health support for young people and their families in the Fremantle community.

Now one of 107 centres across Australia, headspace Fremantle has seen over 6,000 young Australian’s since its launch.

These young Australians are part of the more than 450,000 who have visited a headspace centre across Australia in the last 12 years.

headspace CEO Jason Trethowan said headspace CEO Jason Trethowan said each headspace centre is created with, and for, young people; ensuring all services, programs and facilities are welcoming and youth-friendly.

“Seeking help for any concerns troubling a young person takes a lot of courage, and headspace has made it easier for young people to come to the one place with all the support they need,” Mr Trethowan said.

“With 75 per cent of mental health problems emerging before the age of 25, we are managing issues early which helps prevent them from becoming more serious and longer lasting.”

headspace Fremantle Centre Manager Kieren Marshall said staff are thrilled to celebrate this milestone.

“We have made it this far thanks to the input across the years from our Youth Reference Group, staff, Consortium members and community,” she said.

“We look forward to continuing and expanding these relationships in the future, and can’t wait to see what the next ten years will bring.”

Youth Reference Group member Mike Anderson had been volunteering at the centre for 2 years and was grateful for their help.

“headspace Fremantle supported me when I was at my worst point,” he said.

“Through their service and the Youth Reference Group I’ve gained confidence and am able to make my voice hears on issues that are important to me.

“This anniversary celebrates ten years of headspace Fremantle supporting young people like me who are living better lives thanks to headspace.”
