headspace centre officially launches in Horsham
Those in attendance at the launch included headspace CEO Jason Trethowan, Federal Member for Mallee the Hon. Andrew Broad, State Member for Lowan the Hon. Emma Kealy, along with the young people who have been involved in the establishment of the centre.
“It is a testament to the centre manager Jason Pelcher and the entire team for managing the fit-out of the centre and incorporating valuable input from the youth reference group to ensure the look and feel of the centre is welcoming and friendly.”
The centre is the first service of its kind to cater for young people in the Wimmera and has been in operation since May, and since opening has helped over 200 young people.
“headspace Horsham will be a hub for young people in the region, coordinating services and support to prevent young people from falling through the gaps,” said centre manager Jason Pelcher.
The headspace model is based on early intervention with the knowledge that adolescence and early adulthood is a critical time in a person's life, with research showing that 75 per cent of mental health disorders emerge before the age of 25.
