YRG walk Out of the Shadows and Into the Light for suicide prevention
Thanks to everyone who joined in our Out of the Shadows and Into the Light Walk for suicide prevention last night, organised by our headspace Wollongong Youth Reference Group.
Chilly winds and stormy skies set in a couple of hours before our walk, but luckily the rain held off and the sun even came out for a lovely sunset, along with around 80 people who joined us for the night.
Walkers met for a short reflection and opening words by our YRG members, which sent the message that there are many ways to get support out there, and it's ok to ask for help.
We then walked along the path to North Wollongong Beach, where we enjoyed a piece of cake and listened music by local artist Loren Collyer. The headspace tent also gave walkers the opportunity to chat to staff and volunteers, and pick up more info about support available in our community.

The Out of the Shadows and into the Light walks are coordinated nationally across Australia by Lifeline to raise awareness and encourage conversations about suicide prevention in our community.

(And a big congratulations to all of our YRG members and friends who were involved in planning, promoting and putting on this event. You all did a fantastic job!)
