Science Week Events in Dungog
Science Week is this week and the brand new ‘Paterson Allyn Williams Science Hub’ is involved in two events. They’re a partner in the ‘Boomerang Bags launch’. Basically handmade bags will be sitting at shops around Dungog Shire and if you forget yours then you borrow a boomerang bag and bring it back next time you’re in. It’s all a part of helping save our oceans and environment from the insidious effects of our gluttony on plastic bags. This is a brilliant grassroots initiative to rid our environment of polluting plastics. At the launch you can meet young inspirational scientists involved in sustainability activism, watch films, enjoy drinks and nibblies, ask your questions and find out how to get involved yourself.
The Boomerang Bags Dungog launch is Wed 17th August 5-7pm at the James Theatre in Brown Street, Dungog and it’s free.
Another event is the excellent ‘Scinema short film festival’. These are brilliant shorts from across the world that have won prizes at the International Science Film Festival and they range from the fascinating, to the mesmerising, to the funny to the remarkable. Films about Eels, Eclipses, Parasites, Spiders, Vaccines, Gadgets and more. It's not complicated technical science, it's accessible short films that most of the family can enjoy (there's an M rating). And it's very affordable. The Scinema festival was put together by the Science Channel. It's on Friday 19th August at 7pm and it’s by gold coin donation – so you can bring the whole family. The candy bar will be open too.
