Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid
Mental health first aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. Evidence-based MHFA courses which teach mental health first aid strategies to members of the public.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid Course (AMHFA) curriculum is evidence-based, as informed by the AMHFA Guidelines.
Research has found this course to be effective. Specifically, a study found that the program is culturally appropriate, that it empowers Aboriginal people and that it provides information that is highly relevant in assisting Aboriginal people with a mental illness.
