headspace Batemans Bay is a place where young people across Batemans Bay and Moruya who are going through a tough time can get support.

We provide a safe and confidential environment for young people aged 12 to 25 to access free services for:

  • mental health
  • physical health
  • alcohol and other drugs support
  • work and study assistance

Our Batemans Bay opening hours are:

headspace Batemans Bay is operated by Relationships Australia Canberra & Region. All headspace services are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. Administration of funding is carried out by the headspace centre’s local Primary Health Network, in this case, South Eastern NSW Primary Health Network.

Services

Nutrition screening, dietary assessment and education about food and lifestyle, also support around healthy eating strategies.

Services could include: provision of contraception and advice, testing, support, treatment and management of sexually transmissible infections(STI) HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis vaccination for Hepatitis and HPV, pregnancy testing and referral.

Mental health workers – which may include psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and other workers – that can help if you're just not feeling yourself.

A group of young people who help with events and some decision making at a centre. Ask your centre about getting involved.

If you live near our headspace centre in a rural area but cannot travel in to see us, you can see our mental health workers online.

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with any alcohol or other drug concern.

Mental Health Clinician - headspace Batemans Bay

Your new role

The Mental Health Clinician is responsible for undertaking individual assessments and providing focused psychological strategies for young people with mental health and/or drug and alcohol needs. This role will also work collaboratively with key stakeholders including families, schools, and other non-government organisations to ensure high quality outcomes for clients.

Duties

In consultation with the Manager and Clinical Lead of headspace Batemans Bay, the Mental Health Clinician:

  • Provides a range of focused psychological interventions (both individual and group) for young people with diagnosed or emerging mental health disorders and/or drug and alcohol issues.
  • Assists family members to find constructive ways to support the young person with mental health or drug and alcohol issues. Liaises with GP's and other health professionals (as required) to provide patient care in the area of mental health - specifically in the development and review of care plans and participating in case conferences as outlined in the Enhanced Primary Care Guidelines.
  • Complies with relevant ethical and legal requirements governing Mental Health services including headspace and MPHN policies and procedures, and position scope of practice.
  • Utilises a Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT) approach, routinely and formally seeking and integrating

outcome and alliance feedback from clients/young people to inform and tailor service delivery

What you'll need to succeed

  1. Mental health experience and qualification in the field of Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Counselling or Social Science. Current registration/membership with at least one of the following: Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Australian Association for Social Workers (AASW); Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and Level 2 or above Australian Counselling Association (ACA).
  2. Demonstrated experience in assessment and diagnosis of mental health disorders.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of the theory underpinning evidence-based interventions and clinical practice as well as demonstrated excellence in the practical application of such, in the areas of youth mental health and alcohol and drug use.
  4. Knowledge, skills, and expertise in complex care and the provision of culturally appropriate and socially inclusive services to young people

The Dietitian will manage an allocated caseload to deliver nutrition and dietetic services including screening, assessment, intervention, and evaluation across the continuum of care, within a multidisciplinary team and in accordance with professional and ethical standards. This includes independent day to day planning, service prioritisation, demand management, administration, service advocacy and resource management activities.

Duties

In consultation with the headspace Manager, the Dietitian:

  • provides dietetic and nutrition education services including clinical assessment, education (initial and on-going) and interventions.
  • incorporates health behaviour change techniques into treatment, where appropriate.
  • uses evidence-based practice, established guidelines, policies, procedures, and increasingly independent clinical judgement to support clinical decisions in a complex and varied caseload including patients with complex medical co-morbidities and social issues.
  • maintains patients' confidentiality.
  • participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

 

What you'll need to succeed

  1. Bachelor or post graduate degree in nutrition and dietetics that provides eligibility for full membership of Dietitians Australia and evidence of extensive clinical experience.
  2. Demonstrated proficient skills and knowledge in the provision of current nutrition and dietetic practice.
  3. A strong commitment to an evidence-based service to provide for consumers, carers and families requiring assessment, case management, intervention, appropriate referral and discharge planning.
  4. Proficient written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the proven ability to liaise with novice and experienced health professionals and external service providers.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in ability to work autonomously with limited supervision.
