The Prime Minister opens headspace Bondi

Speaking to the crowd and extensive media pack following him on the election campaign, Mr Turnbull described headspace as a remarkable institution.

“This service will ensure the young people in this area will get the support they need,” he said. “I am proud as your Prime Minister to be here to open headspace Bondi Junction.”

Mr Turnbull said it was an honour to be able to meet some of the young people who have helped shape what is quickly becoming an integral hub for youth mental health services in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

headspace CEO Chris Tanti welcomed the Prime Minister and said it meant a lot to the headspace network that he officially opened headspace Bondi Junctiom.

“It shows what a vital role headspace plays throughout communities across Australia, that the Prime Minister would take the time during the election campaign to make this one of his stops,” Mr Tanti said.

“A lot of work has gone into making the headspace Bondi Junction happen and today is a testament to the effort and to those people.”

headspace Bondi Junction Manager James Isles said the aim of headspace was early intervention to assist young people with their mental health and wellbeing and assist them to link in with services and supports, all on the one site. “It’s exciting to open the doors and welcome young people from the local area to our headspace service here at Bondi Junction,” James said.

“The site where we are located provides an opportunity to work from a youth friendly space, in collaboration with other youth services within the area.”

Mr Isles said headspace Bondi Junction has been overwhelmingly welcomed by the community. 

“We have seen many young people seeking support since we opened in May,” he said.

“Common issues are anxiety and depression, substance use, bullying and family conflict.” headspace Bondi Junction is the 94^thheadspace centre to open, across Australia .
