headspace Gosford celebrates a decade of helping young Australians
This month marks 10 years since headspace Gosford first opened its doors, changing the face of mental health support for young Australians and their families in the Central Coast community.
Now one of 106 centres across Australia, headspace Gosford has welcomed many thousands of young people since inception.
These young Australians are part of the more than 446,000 who have visited a headspace centre across Australia in the last 11 years.
To celebrate this milestone, headspace Gosford will be hosting a celebration event on 20 September where current and previous staff, local young people, supporters and partner organisations will come together to mark this special occasion.
headspace Gosford and Lake Haven Manager, Helen Isenhour, said that headspace Gosford started with a committed group of incredibly passionate people.
“While the faces have changed over the past 10 years, the passion, energy and commitment to young people remain as strong as ever. The community, agency and organisational support that headspace Gosford has received during that time has been phenomenal and we all continue to work as partners to improve the mental health of young people on the central coast” she said.
headspace CEO Jason Trethowan said each headspace centre is created with, and for, young people; ensuring all services, programs and facilities are welcoming and youth-friendly.
“Seeking help for any concerns troubling a young person takes a lot of courage, and headspace has made it easier for young people to come to the one place with all the support they need,” Mr Trethowan said.
“With 75 per cent of mental health problems emerging before the age of 25, we are managing issues early which helps prevent them from becoming more serious and longer lasting.”
headspace Gosford provides a comprehensive range of mental health; physical health; vocational; social and alcohol & drug services for young people aged 12-25 years who are going through a tough time. This free service seeks to work alongside young people and support them to access the vital services they need. No problem is too small to bring to headspace and getting support as early as possible ensures the best opportunity for young people.
Stephanie, a current client of headspace Gosford, said that by having the support from headspace her life has improved in a way that she never thought would be possible. “I am forever grateful to them for the difference they have made in my life”.
