Just Think is a joint Geelong Football Club and BCYF community program aims to support the decision to delay alcohol consumption until 18 years of age, and to reduce the amount of alcohol currently being consumed by students.
It also seeks to raise awareness and provide an evidence informed education program to young people and the wider community about the impact of alcohol misuse and the specific risks surrounding under age alcohol use. Just Think content and messaging is informed by evidence developed by Deakin University School of Psychology's Smart Generation program and are informed by the National Health and Medical Research Council.
Due to COVID19 the Just Think excursion for schools at the Geelong Cats has ceased however the below resources will enable schools to run a similar session within class.
These are the resources required for school staff to run a Just Think alcohol education classroom session:
- A slightly modified Just Think Prezi slide show as a PDF
- Presenters notes
- Background reading- NHMRC recommendations about alcohol and adolescents/Alcohol and the adolescent brain.
- Alcohol’s effects on the brain activity sheet
If you are planning to run Just Think, or would like headspace staff to run Just Think as a remote session contact Keith on 0419546265 to discuss. The program has been written to be delivered flexibly and there is plenty of opportunity for discussion. The key messages about putting off alcohol use as long as possible and looking after friends are fundamental to the program.
