Many young people feel a case of "the winter blues" throughout the cooler months, and that's okay!
We're here to provide some tips for maintaining a healthy headspace.
Winter can be a real mood dampener. But trust us when we say - it doesn't have to be!
There are lots of tips and tricks you can implement to maintain a healthy mind, body, and soul throughout the cooler months.
Look for new things to do in your community
There are lots of fun events, activities, and opportunities for young people in our local communities. Sometimes, it can make young people feel uneasy saying "yes" to new things, especially if they don't know what to expect. A piece of advice from us - it gets easier the more you try.
For example, did you know that Wangaratta has free inclusive drumming sessions? Or that you can try Zumba locally? Maybe you've always wanted to play a sport, but aren't sure where to start (contact Sport North East!).
Whatever it may be, trying new things can lead to great opportunities, new connections, and lots of fun, all of which are great mood-boosters.
Find a fun way to stay active
Often when you hear the word "exercise", your mind can automatically assume people mean going for a run, playing a sport, or hitting the gym. But that's not the case! Staying active means moving your body in a way that suits you.
As it gets cooler, going outside can seem like the last thing you want to do. SO, we thought we'd compile a list of fun ways you can stay active inside the house:
- Play boardgames that get you moving; such as Twister, Throw Throw Burrito, or Spoons.
- Let's bring back Wii Sports and Just Dance - what a fun way to stay active!
- Online zumba, pilates, yoga or other workouts.
It's also important to head outside for fresh air, too. Make the most of the sunny patches!
Try new winter recipes
Eating well means eating balanced, nutritional foods, with all the fun stuff included. When the weather is gloomy outside, use this time to learn to cook, or to try a new recipe! You could enjoy your wonderful creation by yourself, or with your family and/or friends.
