AAFT conference 19/20th October 2017
The theme is 'Family Therapy and Social Justice: Collapsing the divisions of inequality' and headspace is a sponsor.
Inequality is both the source of difficulties that bring people to therapy and a major impediment to effective service delivery. Beyond the inequality between client and therapist are those of the wider system including the client and agency, therapist and agency, agency and agency, and policy and society. All act to further disempower the client and create major constraints to effective service delivery.
In this exciting conference they explore where family therapy and systemic practice can work effectively at every level of system, from constraints imposed by the wider socio-political world to those in therapeutic practice. In addition to the therapy process they will address four main themes, and one general theme, in areas greatly impacted by inequality:
- Indigenous Australians
- Health and Disability
- Age
- Gender
- Other Vulnerable Groups
