YRG Camp : Youth In Front
On the ANZAC Day weekend in April headspace Wollongong joined with other headspace centres from across SE NSW for an exciting weekend of fun, teamwork and a little bit of training.
On location in gorgeous Fitzroy Falls, and after a beautiful Welcome to Dharawal Country from traditional owners Djiriba Waagura, 35 young people from Bega, Cooma, Goulburn, Nowra and Wollongong gathered to collaborate together on building skills and community, and on innovative ways young people can advocate in their communities for better mental health and wellbeing.
The young people attended sessions on safe storying telling and public speaking and participated in team building games, culminating in a ‘World Café’ session on the final day, after a moving dawn service.
We all forged strong connections across our broad region and came away with a deeper understanding of shared challenges and the varying needs of different communities. They returned home inspired to bring their best to their headspace centres as part of their participation in and advocacy for better youth mental health services!
Youth In Front YRG camp will become an annual event. If you are interested, why not think about applying to join our YRG for 2022 - check out all the details here
