Young people that receive support in the context of their family see better results

Incorporating families in their child's mental health is a priority for staff at headspace Swan Hill. "All the evidence is that young people that receive support in the context of their family see better outcomes" headspace Swan Hill Manager Ian Johansen said. All the staff at headspace Swan Hill are trained in the single session family consultation (SSFC) model during orientation, and every young person that comes to headspace is offered a family consultation. "So that the expectations are really clear, that the session is focused on the needs of the young people primarily. And that it's a safe environment for them to receive care and support" Mr Johansen said. Tuning into Teens is a program that helps parents with the skills around engaging their young person, and runs fairly consistently.
