The Guardian: Love is warm

Meet Neil!

Neil has been making beanies for young people at headspace right throughout winter.

"When Neil Preston sits at his knitting machine, he is thinking about the people the beanies he’s making will be gifted to. After receiving a knitting machine for Christmas last year, the Speewa resident started to make the winter warmers."

“I find knitting and spinning peaceful,” Mr Preston said. “Because we did a lot of volunteering, this is my way to make a difference because I can make a contribution,” Mr Preston said. “That why I think headspace here are just awesome; they are just everywhere. “It’s great to see what they do and they are where the young people are and it’s such a great resource for young people.” And it’s others who inspire Mr Preston to continue what he does. “It’s not about me, that’s not why I do it.” Mr Preston said helping others was something that he had learnt from his parents who “helped others all their lives”. “When someone picks up the beanie from headspace I get them to read a tag,” The tag reads: Made for you by someone who cares.”
