Safe and affirming spaces for LGBTIQA+ young people

At headspace Edinburgh North and Marion, we are dedicated to the health and wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ young people. Through our inclusive social support groups, Gender Dive and SAGA, we offer safe and affirming spaces where young people can freely explore their identities and express themselves.

These groups are open to anyone aged 12-25 who identifies as gender or sexually diverse or is questioning their identity. Both Gender Dive and SAGA are led by headspace staff with lived experience and clinical expertise who identify as a part of the LGBTIQA+ community.

Alongside engaging and fun activities, the groups aim to:

  • Promote awareness of inclusive service providers and community networks.
  • Build a sense of shared identity and belonging, while fostering pride in one’s individuality.
  • Offer a safe environment to ask questions and receive trustworthy, supportive information.

About Gender Dive – Northern Adelaide

Gender Dive connects LGBTIQA+ young people in Adelaide’s northern suburbs and has been doing so for over eight years. The group is run by the team at headspace Edinburgh North and has many longstanding members who provide invaluable support to new and younger participants.

One of Gender Dive’s unique features is its member-driven approach. Group members direct discussions and activities, ensuring that sessions meet the evolving needs and interests of the group. From sports events and queer history lessons to quiz nights, movie screenings, and craft activities, Gender Dive offers a wide range of experiences that help young people explore their identities and share their stories free from judgement.

About SAGA – Southern Adelaide

SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Alliance) is a welcoming space for LGBTIQA+ young people in Adelaide’s south. Run by headspace Marion in partnership with The Queer Society, SAGA offers weekly workshops and activities designed to foster connection and support.

Young people who join SAGA explore gender, sexuality, and diversity through a variety of activities, including interactive games, clothes swaps, movie nights, and creative workshops like origami. The group encourages positive discussions, creating a strong sense of community and belonging. To address the different needs of participants at various stages of life, some sessions are split into two age groups, allowing for more tailored conversations.

Since its creation in 2020, SAGA has been the only support group of its kind available to young people in southern Adelaide.

How to Join SAGA

If you’re aged 12-25 and live in Adelaide’s southern suburbs, you can join SAGA. To express your interest, contact the team at headspace Marion.
