Announcement: Hot Chicks with Big Brains Issue #3 Partnership!
headspace are delighted to announce that they are partnering with Hot Chicks with Big Brains to produce the third issue of their magazine. Hot Chicks with Big Brains are an inclusive and intersectional feminist community whose publications highlight and discuss issues relating to women, their work, and their bodies.
The magazine is currently accepting submissions for interviews, essays, memoir, and all kinds of non-fiction content, as well as applications for photographic work, visual art, and one slot as the Featured Artist for the issue.
As part of this partnership, there are four contributor positions available exclusively to one young person from each of these four headspace centres:
- Ipswich
- Nundah
- Meadowbrook, and
- Woolloongabba
If you have an idea for a written or artistic piece please send your pitch or submission through to hotchickswithbigbrains@gmail.com before the deadline, and specify which headspace community you are a member of. If you are young or don’t have much experience yet, don’t let that stop you! Hot Chicks with Big Brains are ready to help the young women with the best ideas.
- Did you top your engineering class and want to interview a woman who works on rocketships?
- Do you have a disability that doesn’t stop you painting incredible works of art?
- Do you have an Aunty or Sister in your community whose story deserves a wider audience?
- Have you taken beautiful photos of a friend transitioning?
- Do you know about an important story about women of colour that needs to be investigated?
The Hot Chicks with Big Brains team will mentor and guide the successful four candidates to prepare their pieces (written or visual) for publication, and each young person will be paid $150 for their work. They are encouraging Indigenous Australia women, LGBTQIA+ people, culturally diverse women and women with disabilities to apply.
Deadline for pitches (both written and visual): 5pm Friday 17 March 2017
Deadline for full submissions (both written and visual): 5pm Friday 31 March 2017
