It's National Youth Week!
This week we are joining three exciting events to celebrate National Youth Week!
Did you know that 42% of the homeless population is under 25 years of age? Tomorrow, the 13th of April, is Youth Homelessness Matters Day and we will be partnering with the Youth Network of Tasmania and other services to mark the day through an event at Elizabeth Street Mall between 11am and 1pm. We hope to see lots of people come along to help raise awareness of this important issue. Come say hello, relax in our pop up yard and have a spin of our Awareness Wheel to learn more about youth homelessness.
On Friday evening between 6 and 9pm we are very excited to be joining the Youth Arts and Recreation Centre's vibrant event Light Up The Lane. Come see Mather's Lane Hobart come alive with sound, light and creative energy as digital art created by young people is projected onto the surrounding buildings and young musicians showcase their talents live. Over 1000 people attended last year and 2016 is set to be even BIGGER! Our film 'Making it Through the Dark' will be screening in the cinema room. The powerful film shares the story of Connah, one of our Youth Reference Group Members, and his experience of depression and recovery. The Youth Reference Group and headspace workers will also be enjoying the cool vibes of our chill out zone, where you can grab a bean bag to relax, get ready to party with some glow in the dark face paint or get a polaroid with your mates.
On Saturday night we are joining Working it Out for the first LGBTIQ+ youth party ever in Hobart... Rainbow Youth Night! Come along to the Youth Arts And Recreation Centre for a party run by rainbow young people for rainbow young people and their allies. We'll be bringing our pop up yard to create a safe, chilled out space where you can have a spin on our Rainbow Wheel and get a free polaroid picture!
