Do you have a big idea for an event, campaign or a social group we can offer at headspace?

Are you keen to step into a volunteer role with the headspace Emerald Youth Reference Group?

What is the YRG?

YRG is a diverse team of young volunteers aged between 12 - 25 years old who are passionate about youth mental health and wellbeing.

The YRG is a great opportunity to connect with others, share ideas, and to influence and help shape how we support young people in our community. You help create a more culturally safe and inclusive centre for young people to access. 

There are a number of roles you can play in YRG, including: 

  • Leading a project in your local area 
  • Website consultation and development 
  • Research and evaluation of headspace services 
  • Consultation around resource development such as, factsheets, brochures, radio ads etc 
  • Peer support and mentoring 

  By getting involved you will: 

  • Have the opportunity to have your say and direct youth mental health services
  • Develop new skills 
  • Meet and work with other young people who are passionate about youth mental health  
  • Make a difference to youth mental health  

 headspace Emerald will provide training to support you to participate in your YRG role.

Who can apply?

  • Anyone aged between 12 and 25 
  • Live in the Central Highlands 
  • Have experienced mental health challenges or supported someone who has. 
  • Passionate about and are interested in mental health 

YRG is open to all young people. We encourage applications from young people from First Nations communities, multicultural communities, LGBTQIA+ young people, and young men to support diverse perspectives and inclusive decision-making. YRG ensure that our service is appropriate, acceptable, accessible and sustainable for all young people within the community. 

What is involved?

  • Attending monthly catch-ups.
  • Help create, plan and facilitate events.
  • Create content for social media and advertising.
  • Support headspace staff at stalls, festivals and community events. 
  • Meet with us and give advice on our service, projects, programs and issues
  • Undertaking training in areas that interest you within youth mental health.

By providing a variety of activities, we hope to provide the opportunity to draw on our YRG strengths, abilities and capabilities, while also appealing to a broad range of interests.
