Meet Jess, our Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) clinician!
We’re excited to introduce Jess, our dedicated Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) clinician at headspace Elsternwick. With years of experience working with young people in both outreach and clinical settings, Jess is here to provide non-judgemental, client-driven support for any young person wanting to have a chat about alcohol or other drugs.
Jess’s journey into AOD work has been fuelled by her passion for providing safe, accessible, and stigma-free support for young people. “You don’t have to be unwell or at rock bottom to reach out for support,” Jess says. “Sometimes just having a space to reflect, ask questions, or learn something new can make a huge difference.”
We caught up with Jess to learn more about what she offers and how she can support young people.
What Jess can support with
AOD counselling through headspace is completely free and tailored to your needs. Jess offers short-term or longer-term support — and the best part? She currently has appointments available, meaning no long wait times.
Young people might come to see Jess for a variety of reasons, including:
-
Noticing changes in their alcohol or drug use — big or small
-
Wanting accurate, no-nonsense information about a specific drug
-
Looking for safer-use tips and harm reduction strategies
-
Wanting a non-judgemental space to reflect on their experiences
-
Thinking about cutting back, stopping, or planning for recovery
-
Getting support for a family history of AOD use
-
Needing a relapse prevention plan or extra support staying on track
-
Accessing info about detox, rehab, outreach or peer support options
Whatever the reason, Jess is here to meet you where you’re at — without pressure or judgement.
One thing Jess wishes young people knew about AOD support
“You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from AOD support,” Jess explained. “It’s often really helpful to have these conversations early — whether it’s because you’ve noticed your drinking’s crept up a little, you’re curious about a friend’s use, or you just want to learn more. Support is for anyone, at any stage.”
Jess’s goal is to offer information, reduce stigma, and provide a safe space for open, honest conversations.
