headspace Broken Hill offers young people from the ages 12-25 a welcoming environment where they can access free & confidential mental health support, health advice & groups. We provide general health services, mental health support, vocational & education support and alcohol and other drug services.
We make sure all young people who contact or attend our headspace centre are able to access the help they need. With our no wrong door policy, even if you are not sure what help you need we can help you find it.
We are wheelchair-accessible.

headspace Broken Hill is operated by Flourish Australia. All headspace services are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. Administration of funding is carried out by the headspace centre’s local Primary Health Network, in this case, Western NSW PHN.
Services
Your GP can refer you to see a specialist youth psychiatrist for bulk billed assessment and management advice for mental health issues.
If you live near our headspace centre in a rural area but cannot travel in to see us, you can see our mental health workers online.
Mental health workers – which may include psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and other workers – that can help if you're just not feeling yourself.
Centres have a range of programs and activities for young people. Just ask your centre what they have on.
Services could include: provision of contraception and advice, testing, support, treatment and management of sexually transmissible infections(STI) HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis vaccination for Hepatitis and HPV, pregnancy testing and referral.

About the Opportunity
headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation supporting young people aged 12-25 years with their mental & general health care needs. At headspace we provide young people with the opportunity to seek help early by bringing local health services under the one roof, making it easier for young people and their families to find the information they need.
On a day to day basis, you will:
- Deliver quality, evidence-based recovery focused mental health services including assessments, individualised person-centered planning and coordination, and the delivery of relevant therapeutic interventions.
- Design treatment plans and relevant interventions to assist the young person to drive their own recovery plan.
- Coordinate supports with service providers including medical professionals, Government Departments and services, non-government organisations and schools.
- Provide supervision, support, guidance, and mentoring of students and provisionally registered psychologists.
- Identify and implement community based activities that will support the social and emotional well being of the individual on their recovery journey.
- Offer education and guidance on clinical matters.
Ideally, you will have significant experience working within the Mental Health sector combined with relevant qualifications. You must also be currently registered, or eligible for registration (National or State) as a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse or other allied health professional.

Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy or other allied health discipline.
- Eligibility for membership with an appropriate professional body (e.g. APHRA).
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience (e.g. including psychosocial assessments, provision of intervention, triaging of clients and facilitation of referrals) (Senior Youth Access Clinician only).
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, risk assessment and safety planning with demonstrated experience in managing risk with participants (Senior Youth Access Clinician only).
- Experience in direct service provision to young people and their families (Senior Youth Access Clinician only).
- Demonstrated understanding of the factors that influence the mental, physical, social and emotional well-being of young people aged 12-25 years and their families.
- Are able to demonstrate an in depth knowledge of recovery focused practice and the impact of mental health in the community.
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work within a team.
- Have a high degree of computer literacy, including demonstrated experience with report writing and electronic client information management systems.

About the Pay:

GPs are supported by a team of experienced youth healthcare experts, including psychologists, psychiatrists, dieticians, social workers and mental health nurses. Having access to a team of co-located services means there is an incredible amount of support, with opportunities for secondary consultations with a psychiatrist and the team.
headspace offers a supportive team environment. As a contracted practitioner, you receive referrals from the headspace team following an assessment and we will provide full comprehensive administration support and case management.

About the Opportunity
The Practice Nurse will directly assist in the provision of sexual, reproductive, vaccine and general health follow up as required for young people accessing the headspace centre(s). It is also expected that the individual will provide complementary health promotion and health education activities for young people accessing the centre and in an external setting if required.
We are seeking a highly motivated and organised person to facilitate excellence in integrated holistic health care, with the goal of improving outcomes for people accessing the service and the wider community.
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
- Assist as delegated by the GP in undertaking assessments and procedures e.g. vaccinations, dressings, health checks.
- Within scope of practice, provide 1:1 education around issues relevant to young people including sexual health, body image, vaccinations, general health promotion and education to enhance their ability to make informed choices in this regard.
- Provide consultation and support to staff members and external parties around issues of youth health as appropriate.
- Advocate and communicate within appropriate legislative guidelines on behalf of the young person with family, headspace staff and external services.
- Consult with and support the Clinical and Operations Manager and Practice Manager in ensuring accreditation standards are achieved by implementing and maintaining audit tools, equipment and records.
- Ensure medical supplies are ordered and stored appropriately.
- Assist GP and Practice Manager, as directed, with managing routine and urgent client recalls and follow up of pathology results.
- Facilitate the provision of information relating to the health of young people, families/carers or organisations requesting guidance and support.

What is telehealth?
Although headspace generally provides in-person counselling support, due to COVID-19, and the current climate with physical distancing measures, to ensure we are able to still provide a service to young people, their families and friends, we have transitioned to telehealth services.
Telehealth services consist of any health-related communication via telephone and video conferencing platforms and applications. Instead of in-person appointments, we are now providing online appointments over phone calls and video calls using ‘Zoom’.

If you are the family member, carer or friend of a young person and wish to refer them to headspace Broken Hill, you are welcome to call us during our business hours to discuss their options. Please ensure that the young person who you are referring is willing to engage with headspace and is able to attend appointments.
Service Providers
If you are a service provider, health professional, or from a school and wish to refer a young person to headspace Broken Hill, please complete our Service Provider Referral Form. Prior to completing the form, please ensure that you have obtained the young person's consent and provide as much information as possible so that headspace Broken Hill's Intake Officer can determine the suitability and the most appropriate treatment options for the young person. headspace Broken Hill will contact the young person and inform you thereafter of the outcome of your referral with us.
