Monday March 31, 2025 was Trans Day of Visibility, a day dedicated to celebrating the trans and gender diverse community while also raising awareness of the continuing work necessary to eliminate discrimination and other barriers to inclusion in all aspects of society.
It was the first time that the non-binary flag was officially raised as part of these celebrations in Bendigo.
The non-binary flag standing alongside the trans flag is a declaration that every person, regardless of where they fall on the gender spectrum, has the right to be seen, to be acknowledged, and to be celebrated.
The speeches from Zara, Kim, Teddy and Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf were moving.
One take away message from the day was, not just standing up on Trans Day of Visibility but standing up and showing your support every day.
