How we brought the tips for a healthy headspace to life these winter school holidays

This winter school holidays, headspace Batemans Bay and headspace Narooma brought young people together for two weeks of free activities across the Eurobodalla – all designed around the tips for a healthy headspace.

Young people aged 12–25 got involved in kayaking, equine workshops, putt putt golf, Dungeons & Dragons and a movie session, with activities taking place across Batemans Bay, Mogo, Mossy Point and Narooma.

The program was about more than just having something fun to do during the holidays. Each activity created opportunities for young people to connect with others, try something new, build confidence and look after their mental health and wellbeing.

Bringing the tips for a healthy headspace to life

Throughout the program, young people had opportunities to:

  • Get in to life by trying new activities, having fun and doing things they enjoy.
  • Learn skills for tough times by taking on new challenges, solving problems, building confidence and learning new skills.
  • Create connections by meeting new people, spending time together and connecting with their community.
  • Stay active through kayaking, equine activities and other enjoyable ways of getting moving.

Feedback from the program included:

  • 96% rated their activity as either “Loved it” or “It was good”, including 80% who selected “Loved it”.
  • 100% felt welcomed, safe and included.
  • 90% felt more or somewhat more aware of ways to look after their mental health and wellbeing, including where to go for support.

Our Dungeons & Dragons sessions also gave young people the opportunity to take the lead. Youth facilitators helped design and deliver the activities, bringing their own skills and ideas to the program and creating a welcoming experience for other young people.

Thank you

A huge thank you to Nice Putt, Region X, Renew Equine Academy, Narooma Kinema and our youth facilitators for helping us bring the Winter School Holiday Program to life.

These free activities were made possible with funding from the NSW Government through the NSW Office for Youth. Thank you for supporting opportunities for young people across the Eurobodalla to connect, get involved and look after their wellbeing.
