We provide free services for young people aged 12-25 years. Anyone can make a referral including self-referral, family, friends, service providers and health professionals. Referrals can be made in person, by phone, in writing (email, fax, letter) or online. To access our online referral form, click on this link:

Services

Your GP can refer you to see a specialist youth psychiatrist for bulk billed assessment and management advice for mental health issues.

Mental health workers – which may include psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and other workers – that can help if you're just not feeling yourself.

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with any alcohol or other drug concern.

A group of young people who help with events and some decision making at a centre. Ask your centre about getting involved.

If you live near our headspace centre in a rural area but cannot travel in to see us, you can see our mental health workers online.

GPs can help with any physical health issues as well as issues related to sexual health, drug or alcohol use, relationship problems or feeling down or upset. Your centre may have a GP on site or links to one locally. 

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with work or study opportunities. 

Centres have a range of programs and activities for young people. Just ask your centre what they have on.

About headspace Armidale

headspace Armidale offers free youth-friendly early intervention services and support to young people aged 12 – 25 years (and their family and friends) experiencing mild to moderate difficulties in four key areas:

  • Mental health
  • Physical and sexual health
  • Alcohol and other drugs

 

headspace Armidale’s service providers work together to make it as easy as possible for young people and their family and friends to access the support they require including making referrals to other services internally and externally.

 

The services available at headspace Armidale include:

  • Therapeutic support and intervention with a Mental Health Worker
  • Psychiatrist
  • General Practitioner
  • Nurse
  • Dietician
  • Alcohol and Other Drug counselling and support

 

headspace Armidale is not an acute or crisis mental health service.  If you or a young person you are supporting have any immediate concerns regarding the safety or wellbeing of a young person, please call the Mental Health Line on 1800 011 511, Lifeline on 13 11 14; or Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800. In an emergency, contact 000 immediately.

Young people are encouraged to make contact with the service by:

Drop in: Young people can walk-ins and complete the referral form between 8:45am – 5pm on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Thursday and Wednesday from 8:45am – 7:00pm. 

• Family, Friend or Carer Referral
Families, friends and/ or carers can refer a young person to headspace via phone and fax or email using the referral form on the website.  The young person needs to be aware of and consent to the referral and be willing to meet with a member from the headspace team.

• Professional Referral
GP’s, Allied Health Professionals, community-based agencies and educational institutions can refer young people to headspace via fax or email using the referral form on the website.

GP’s are encouraged to include a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) if appropriate.  Referrals from tertiary health services are encouraged to include an A1 or discharge summary if appropriate.

It may be necessary to have a Medicare card for some services (this can be your parents/carers card if you are listed) if not, you can apply for your own Medicare card

 

Administration staff will send a text message to confirm the receipt of the referral for young people, family, friend and/ or carer. As well notify the referrer eg: GP’s, Allied Health Professionals, community-based agencies and educational with a letter/email to acknowledge that the referral has been received.

Management

headspace Armidale is lead by our Centre Manager Rhonda Partridge. Rhonda guides our team and are always ensuring that youth is at the forefront of all decisions. 

Admin

Our friendly Admin Assistant Team is the first person you will come in contact with when you call to make an appointment or come into our office. Our admin teams aims for your appointment at headspace Armidale to work as smoothly as possible.

Mental Health Clinicians

Our team of Mental Health Clinicians are made up of Psychologists, Counsellors & Social Workers. Our Clinical Team is passionate about the mental of youth and their friends and family. Their goal is to make you feel safe & comfortable all while helping you achieve your wellbeing goals.

Medical Team 

Our medical team is made up of a Registered Nurse and General Practitioner that can help you with your physical health problems & journey. All at no cost to the young person. 

Corporate Staff

Our corporate team is made up of a diverse range of professionals who support management & engage the community ensuring that young people feel safe, comfortable and are getting a high quality service.

headspace Armidale is closed on weekends and public holidays. We will update our opening hours should there be any additional closures such as during holiday periods.

headspace Armidale believes in providing young people with the opportunity and platform to be heard and advocate for the needs of young people in our community. You can do this by joining the headspace Armidale Youth Reference Group (YRG).

The YRG meets monthly with projects and events occurring at various times through the year. Anyone aged 14-24 is welcome to join and you can come along to meetings to see if it's right for you.

 

Being a member of the headspace Armidale YRG you will have the opportunity to;

  • Learn how to design, drive and deliver events
  • Develop skills that suit your own interests
  • Create projects that strengthen youth culture while receiving professional mentoring and peer support
  • Have your say on important issues and influence the way headspace Armidale operates
  • Learn and develop leadership and organisational skills
  • Meet and work with other young people who are passionate about youth and our community.

 

The YRG meets monthly with project and events occurring throughout the year.
