New activities to try this spring!

26 Aug 2026

Spring is the perfect time for a fresh start, and what better way to embrace the season than by trying a new hobby?

With longer days and warmer weather, spring gives us the perfect opportunity to step outside our comfort zones and discover something we enjoy. No matter what your interests are, trying a new hobby can be a fun way to meet new people, boost your confidence and make the most of the season.

We've compiled a selection of fun ideas to get you started

Frisbee/Disc Golf

This is a great outdoor activity to try out solo or with a friend!

Test your skills by trying to throw a frisbee into the designated nets.

If you're living in Wangaratta or surrounds, the HP Barr Reserve has a designated Disc Golf park!

You can create your own course easily, too. Just make a goal (you could use a bucket!) and mark out throwing positions.

Junk journaling

If you're a lover of crafts and collecting things, this is a great lowkey hobby to try.

It's a fun way to document memories and life events, and can be as messy or ordered as you would like it to be.

Some ideas for things to collect; lolly wrappers, concert/event tickets, fruit stickers, fabric pieces, ribbons/lace, buttons, wrapping paper, menus, maps, flowers/foliage. Op shops are great for thrifting old journals to get your base started, too!

Hobby groups

Hoppy groups are a fantastic way to meet new people with similar interests! Here are some locally:

There are plenty more! A quick google search can help to find them.

Flower walks

These are so fun! All you need is a bit of cardboard with a vase or stems drawn on it, and holes poked into where you would like the flowers to go.

This is a great mindfulness activity that has the benefits of sunshine, fresh air and movement.

Geocaching

If you have access to a car, Geocaching is a great way to explore your local region (or regions around the world!).

You might need the geocaching app to help you out.

Important: for safety, it's best to let someone know where you plan to go searching, just in case something happens whilst you're out adventuring!

Air dry clay

This crafty hobby is both fun and practical! You can create lots of things including jewelry, plates/mugs, pots, figurines, and more!

Kmart has low-cost supplies.

This is a regular activity at our Peer Worker Jo's social group in Wangaratta, too!

Gardening

Spring is the PERFECT time to get out in the garden.

Your garden doesn't have to be extravagant, there are lots of small projects you can try, such as; single-pot tea gardens, chaos gardening, herb pots, potted colour, and more.

Movement

Moving your body is one of the best ways to support a healthy headspace and your overall wellbeing. There's not "correct" way to move your body - try things out, and find what suits you!

Here are some ideas; rollerblades/skates, shooting hoops, skipping, skateboarding, yoga, swimming, tai chi, zumba, gymnastics, or VR (virtual reality)!

These are just a few of the many hobbies out there. If you would like some more tips of how to get into life, headspace have some great resources
