Volunteer L2P Driver Mentor
Employer: EACH
Are you over 21 years of age and hold a full drivers licence?
Are you confident in your driving ability and would like to support young people to reach their full potential?
Then jump on board this opportunity and become a volunteer with the headspace Knox and EACH L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program.
How does the program work?
The Victorian Graduated Licensing System makes it compulsory for learner drivers under 21 years of age to obtain at least 120 hours of supervised driving experience prior to taking the probationary licence test. The L2P program helps young people who have significant barriers to learning to drive to gain their required hours of driving experience.
Young people are matched with fully licensed volunteer mentors and use a fully maintained and serviced vehicle to gain their 120 hours of driving experience required to obtain a probationary driver’s licence. Learner drivers also receive professional lessons throughout the program to evaluate their progress at the different stages of learning to drive. Access to the sponsored vehicle is available 7 days a week and sessions are negotiated between the learner driver and mentor.
Mentors develop a trusting and supportive relationship with young people by providing them with the tools they need to be safe and confident drivers. By helping young people get their licence, mentors empower young people with a greater sense of independence while increasing opportunities to access education and employment. Mentors benefit from giving back to the community and gain a sense of satisfaction in making a positive impact in the lives of young people.
I would like to volunteer as a Mentor, how can I get involved?
Are you over 21 years of age, can make a commitment of at least one hour a week, hold a full drivers licence and want to help young people?
Volunteer Mentors need to register their interest in the program, attend an interview, and complete the mandatory background checks. Mentors will be provided with comprehensive training from VicRoads that will prepare them for their role as a supervising driver.
