About headspace and RAV

headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. This covers core areas including mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services.

Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) is the lead agency for headspace Sale, a satellite service managed and governed by the parent centre, headspace Bairnsdale and by a consortium of local community organisations who provide expertise, support and advice to RAV. About the role

Reporting to the Centre Manager headspace Bairnsdale, the purpose of this specific  Youth Access clinician role  is to effectively engage, screen, assess, refer, provide brief interventions and to coordinate care for young people aged 12-25 years that are referred to the headspace centre who have been impacted by COVID-19. Youth Access Workers are part of a multi-disciplinary team, including general practitioners, allied health clinicians, community engagement workers, and support staff.

In response to COVID-19, service provision will initially be completed via. video appointments and teleconferencing. The work conducted in this role will then transition into face-to-face work based in Bairnsdale when advised safe to do so. The successful candidate will be working part-time four (4) days per week on a fixed-term contract until June 2021.

Qualifications and Registrations:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in health, behavioural/social sciences, community services, or a related discipline.
  • Current full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or current full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) is preferred.

Experience:

  • Ability and experience to undertake intake and screening activities to determine client needs, and to assist clients to access appropriate services.
  • Ability and experience to conduct risk assessments, including suicide and violence risks, and to develop action plans that mitigate these risks.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health, including related evidence-based interventions and clinical practice.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of people, the ability to engage with young people and advocate on their behalf.
