A moment with LiFE Awards winner Leilani Darwin
Leilani Darwin was the proud recipient of the 2016 National LiFE Award for Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention, presented by Wesley Lifeforce at the National Suicide Prevention Conference 2016.
Leilani is a proud Aboriginal woman driven by her personal lived experience of suicide, working with young people at headspace Inala. Through her partnerships with the Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Program (SPAMHP), the Inala Elders Corporation, and various other local community organisations, Leilani designed and developed the United Health Education and Learning Program (UHELP) in consultation with the community. Leilani speaks with Suicide Prevention Australia about her program and approach to community consultations.
