The Prime Minister came to headspace Queanbeyan in December to make a press announcement about a new bill on internet safety. He met with Jenna Ross from the centre's Youth Reference Group who was able to highlight again the findings from the headspace National Youth Mental Health Survey in 2020: • more than half of young people had experienced cyber-bullying in their lifetime, and • young people believe social media is the leading cause of worsening mental health. Jenna encouraged young people to think about their internet and social media usage and what effect it's having on them - which could be both positive or negative. She encouraged them to talk to someone about it if they feel it's having a negative impact on their well-being. Jenna shared the story of a friend who regularly has a social media detox to help manage the impacts on her mental health. Well done Jenna on your advocacy work!

Jenna has been part of the headspace Youth Reference group for 3 years. Consider joining the YRG to have opportunities like Jenna. Anyone 16-25yo is welcome to apply.
