Building Skills, Confidence and Community: headspace x Bunnings Youth Project

Over the past three weeks, a group of young people came together to develop practical skills, boost their confidence, and give back to the local community - all through a hands-on project led by headspace Onkaparinga’s Work and Study team in collaboration with Bunnings Reynella.

With support from Bunnings, participants were guided through the process of assembling and constructing a flat-pack shelving unit, gaining valuable experience in teamwork, communication, and tool use. The program wasn’t just about building furniture - it was about building confidence, capability, and connection.

Once completed, the shelving unit was proudly donated to Little Kindy Dover Gardens, where it’s already making a meaningful difference in their learning space.

As a bonus, each participant received their own toolbelt and selection of tools to take home - empowering them to take on future projects with the skills and equipment they’ve gained.

A huge thank you to:

  • Bunnings Reynella for their generous donation and expert guidance
  • Our dedicated facilitators and support staff
  • And of course, the incredible young people who showed up, gave it their all, and made this project such a success

This initiative was a perfect example of learning through doing, with impact that reached far beyond the final product. We’re so proud of what was achieved - and we can’t wait to see where these new skills take each participant next.
