Rob Joins the Panel for Tangent Talk: Dear Son

Earlier this week, our very own Peer Practitioner Rob (he/him) proudly represented headspace Marion as a panellist for the Tangent Talk: Dear Son -hosted by State Theatre Company South Australia.

What is a Tangent Talk?

Tangent Talks offer a unique opportunity to explore the stories and themes behind State Theatre Company’s productions through open, insightful discussions. These events spotlight diverse voices from across the community and delve into topics that connect art with real-world experience.

About Dear Son

Coming to Adelaide this July, Dear Son is a co-production with Queensland Theatre, adapted from the book Dear Son: Letters and Reflections from First Nations Fathers and Sons, edited by Thomas Mayo. The stage adaptation, created by renowned First Nations theatre makers Isaac Drandic and John Harvey, transforms deeply personal letters into a powerful theatrical event exploring themes of culture, identity, fatherhood, and healing.

Rob on the Panel

Rob, a First Nations Peer Practitioner at headspace Marion, joined an incredible panel featuring:

  • Gavin Wanganeen – former AFL player, artist, and media personality
  • Tirritpa Ritchie – lecturer at Flinders University, former OT, and former Indigenous Project Officer at UniSA

Held at the Hetzel Lecture Theatre on Monday 16 June, the discussion offered a rich and moving reflection on First Nations manhood, cultural connection, and the strength found in intergenerational storytelling.

Rob brought a thoughtful, youth-focused perspective to the conversation, sharing how these themes resonate with the lived experiences of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people - particularly in the context of mental health and wellbeing.

We’re incredibly proud of Rob for contributing his voice and insight to such a meaningful event and continuing to advocate for the young people in our community.
