National Reconciliation Week
To celebrate National Reconciliation Week, the headspace Bairnsdale team visited the East Gippsland Art Gallery to view the South East NOW exhibition.
The team felt it was an important show our support and celebration of National Reconciliation Week and of Gunai Kurnai culture.
This exhibition showcases art work from 17 Koori artists such as Lee Darroch a Yorta Yorta, Mutti Mutti and Boon Wurrung artist who has had her pieces of work displayed at the National Gallery of Victoria. Her artwork is inspired by the need to continue cultural, spiritual and artistic practices. She feels guided in her artwork by the Old People who have gone before us and by her Elders today.
There are also number pieces from local artists among those showcasing their work in the exhibition, in particular young artist Zion Bradley Brown, and widely known community members Alfie Hudson, Rod Hudson, Alice-Anne Pepper and Ray Thomas.
