Inaugural headspace Round 2019
On the last home and away round of the East Gippsland Football Netball League, headspace Bairnsdale hosted our inaugural headspace Round games day with the Lakes Entrance Football Netball Club (LEFNC).
The LEFNC Under-17 Football and Netball teams wore green socks in support of headspace, and Brydie (headspace Bairnsdale Community Engagement Officer) had the chance to speak to both teams before each of their games about the importance of seeking help when needed and how to access headspace Bairnsdale services. Brydie also set up a stall with information, games and giveaways for people to check out throughout the day.
The headspace Bairnsdale team received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback on the day, with many young people, families, friends and community members having the opportunity to chat to Brydie, Faith (headspace Bairnsdale Youth Access Worker) and Julie (headspace Bairnsdale Client Services Officer) about headspace and the services offered at the Bairnsdale centre.
Prior to the Saturday game day, Jacinta (headspace Bairnsdale Youth Access Worker) and Brydie held a workshop with LEFNC coaches, committee members and senior players to provide them with some information and resources.
It was a great way to upskill club members to give them the confidence to promote mental health help-seeking behaviours, share information about headspace Bairnsdale and provide adequate referral support to young people who may be going through a tough time. The inaugural headspace Round was a huge success, with many other local sporting clubs already expressing interest in partnering with headspace Bairnsdale to run headspace Round next year.
