referral guidelines 

headspace Albury Wodonga delivers services and support to young people aged 12-25 years-old in four key areas: mental health and wellbeing, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drugs (AoD) and work, school, and study.

Our services provide free short-term support for mild to moderate difficulties. 

eligibility criteria

  • Young person is aged between 12 and 25 years
  • Young person consents to referral
  • Parent/guardian also consents to referral (if Young person under 18 years)
  • Mild to moderate mental health symptoms, as demonstrated by IAR level 4 or below (as determined by headspace)

Substance use, recent life events, previous service engagement and other impacting factors are also considered upon referral. Assessment for exception provided at headspace discretion.

exclusion criteria

  • Engaged with another service for counselling
  • Primary presentation is related to a neurodevelopmental disorder or disability that is unaccompanied by a mental health presentation
  • Presentations of acute nature, where medical stability is a concern (e.g. eating disorder, unmanaged physical health issues)
  • Current acute risk (as determined by headspace)
  • Current acute untreated psychotic symptoms
  • Support would be better provided by specialist services (see below)
  • Moderate to severe current and/or history of risk of harm to others

Albury Wodonga Health’s Mental Health Service provides specialist clinical assessment, treatment and on-going care to people who have, or who are at risk of a serious mental illness or suicide. Across a range of disciplines they support people of all ages including people with co-occurring substance use problems. Person centred care is provided through a recovery focused model for both urgent and non-urgent cases. (number)
