Celebrating Lunar New Year at headspace Albury Wodonga and headspace Wangaratta

Across both headspace Albury Wodonga and headspace Wangaratta, our centres have been glowing with colour, connection and celebration as we welcomed Lunar New Year. 

Our incredible Cultural Connections Coordinator, Ruby, with the support of our Community Engagement team, transformed both centres with vibrant decorations to mark the occasion. From traditional red and gold touches symbolising luck and prosperity, to thoughtful cultural displays, the spaces felt warm, inclusive and joyful for young people, families and staff. 

Lunar New Year is celebrated by many cultures across East and South-East Asia and within multicultural communities around the world. It marks the beginning of the lunar calendar and is a time for renewal, family, reflection, and hope for the year ahead. It is a celebration of culture, ancestry and community, and an important opportunity for us to honour the diverse identities of the young people and families we walk alongside every day. 

During our recent team day, staff participated in Lunar New Year activities together, taking time to learn more about the traditions and meaning behind the celebration. Across our broader lead agency, Gateway Health staff also joined in, rolling up their sleeves for a dumpling-making workshop, a beautiful way to connect through food, storytelling and shared experiences. 

And the celebrations continue. 

This Friday, 27th February from 4pm–6pm, in collaboration with the local Vietnamese community and Wodonga City Council, headspace Albury Wodonga will be hosting a Lunar New Year community event at Hyphen Library. The afternoon will feature bilingual Storytime, lively music and dance performances, and the opportunity to try your hand at traditional games. 

We are so proud to create spaces that celebrate culture, foster belonging, and strengthen connections within our community. Lunar New Year reminds us of the power of new beginnings, and the importance of walking into them together.
