Youth Futures Crew Member

Employer: Stride Mental Health

Deadline: 10 Oct 2025, 5:00 pm

Why join?

Young people know best what works for young people. That’s why our Youth Reference Group (YRG) exists — to make sure headspace services are youth-friendly, relevant and safe.

By being part of the YRG, you’ll:

  • Have your say in shaping mental health support in your community
  • Develop new skills in leadership, teamwork and advocacy
  • Get involved in events, projects, and real decision-making
  • Connect with other young people passionate about making a difference

About us

Stride is the lead agency for 11 headspace centres across QLD, NSW and VIC. headspace supports young people (12–25) with:

  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Physical and sexual health
  • Alcohol and other drugs
  • Work and study

We know services work best when young people are at the table — not just being heard but being part of decisions. That’s where you come in.

About the Youth Reference Group

The YRG is a diverse group of volunteers (16–25 years) who:

  • Share their ideas and lived experiences to improve services
  • Help design and run youth-friendly events and campaigns
  • Sit on interview panels and influence staff recruitment
  • Represent headspace at community events and in the media
  • Learn skills like Youth Mental Health First Aid and safe storytelling

It’s not about being an “expert” — it’s about bringing your perspective as a young person.

What’s involved?

  • Volunteer position (no prior experience needed)
  • Regular meetings at your local headspace centre (Geelong, Corio or Ocean Grove)
  • Ongoing support from a Community Engagement Coordinator
  • Opportunities to take part in training and skill-building workshops
  • Half-day induction session to get you started

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for enthusiasm, openness and commitment.
We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Are 16–25 years old
  • Can attend regular YRG meetings and keep in touch via email/Facebook
  • Are keen to share ideas and work with others
  • Are willing to represent headspace respectfully at events

(You’ll need a Working With Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening — we can help you apply if you don’t already have them.)

Diversity matters

We want our YRG to reflect the diversity of our communities. We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, people from cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ young people, people with a disability, and those with lived experience of mental health challenges.
