Tell me about the role…

The Digital Mental Health Program (DMHP) Clinical Manager is responsible for providing management as well as clinical leadership and escalation across the programs within DMHP. The position will have line management duties, portfolio accountabilities and day to day oversight, in collaboration with the DMHP Operations Manager.

The services within DMHP comprise of a national tele-psychiatry service, several small-scale programs supporting regional and educational settings, a comprehensive online community platform and eheadspace. The suite of services currently operate independently from each other, however the aim is to progressively develop closer operational and governance alignment across DMHP.

The largest of these programs is eheadspace, which provides clinical support to young people and families via a comprehensive teleweb service. The majority of the Clinical Manager will be dedicated to eheadspace management and will have approximately 4 direct reports comprising of Clinical Coordinators that operate within eheadspace.

Reporting to the Head of DMHP, the role will be a key member of the DMHP leadership team and will have interaction with the headspace Executive.

Key deliverables of this role will be:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the eheadspace clinical team, driving a team approach to quality care, contract deliverables and portfolio goals.
  • Maintain accountability for continuous quality improvements across clinical activities and clinical processes, including exemplary change management to ensure team engagement.
  • Working closely with the Clinical Coordinators, the Clinical Manager will hold responsibility for key service portfolios including (but not limited to) clinical quality reporting, auditing, orientation & training, recruitment, wellbeing culture, supervision, clinical resource development and responding to complaints and incidents in line with headspace policy and practice.
  • Ensure clinical governance frameworks for all services within DMHP are appropriate and up to date, including language alignment across headspace National. Processes relevant to all teams will sit in the overarching framework, however, each team will have a clinical practice manual for where their service is unique.
  • In collaboration with the Head of DMHP, provide a key point of clinical escalation for programs within DMHP.
  • Establish systems and processes for monitoring performance and benchmarking. Support the implementation of indicators to ensure proactive alignment of priorities and resources.
  • Provide leadership and where appropriate oversight on projects outlined in the DMHP strategic plan and work plans.
  • Demonstrate the clinical capabilities at the level relevant to this role under the headspace Clinical Capability Framework. 

What we’re looking for...

headspace is seeking approved tertiary qualification in an allied health discipline including social work, psychology, mental health nursing, and occupational therapy: 

  • Eligibility for membership of an appropriate professional body is required Social workers are required to be eligible for full membership with AASW. Psychologists, mental health nurses, and occupational therapists are required to have full registration with AHPRA.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in leadership or management of services demonstrating achievement of key performance indicators and overall contract deliverables
  • Significant experience providing direct clinical support within a youth mental health setting and demonstrated understanding and commitment to youth mental health and early intervention principles.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organisational and communication skills to effectively manage and contribute to the delivery of outstanding services.
  • A commitment to utilising qualitative and quantitative data to inform and refine best practises.
  • Growth mindset, thriving on accountability and delivering results, committed to problem solving and structured continuous improvement.
  • A demonstrated understanding of strategic thinking with a capacity to operate in a flexible and rapidly changing environment
  • Knowledge of strategy development, implementation and monitoring of programs.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of developing and implementing quality assurance procedures and exceeding accreditation standards.
  • Experience in managing client focused change, preferably in the health sector.
  • Capacity to assess and manage risk, problem solve and be able to negotiate successful outcomes in potentially challenging circumstances.
  • A proven ability to effectively manage, supervise and build clinical teams, including motivation, shared purpose, managing performance and instilling a positive growth culture.
  • Highly motivated with exceptional leadership, project management and program management skills.
  • An exceptional communicator who is able to coach, inspire and collaborate across all aspects of their professional practise.
  • Experience in online counselling service provision and graduate level qualifications in business management would be desirable.
