These young people work towards reducing stigma associated with mental health issues while promoting the benefits of seeking support.
Viva funding has created opportunities for young people across four headspace centres and the headspace Youth National Reference Group (hYNRG) to learn new skills and build their confidence. They’re now mental health advocates who deliver events that encourage local community engagement. Viva staff have volunteered their time to support local events, witnessing firsthand how their contributions have helped create opportunities for centres to welcome young people to headspace.
Since 1 January 2017, this Viva funded initiative has enabled 718 participation opportunities offered through 134 training and upskilling sessions. It’s also presented 84 community engagement and 15 Viva Energy staff engagement opportunities.
Viva staff have contributed many volunteer hours via the headspace Career Mentoring program, gaining mental health literacy and professional development opportunities as they help guide young people along their journey into work or study pathways. The Viva Energy team has provided valuable feedback and interview experience to young people via our Work and Study program by participating on mock interview panels with young people. This has increased young people’s skills and confidence, and has been a highly rewarding opportunity for both participating young people and Viva Energy volunteers alike.
