Welcome to the second headspace e-newsletter – our Autumn edition. Since the last e-newsletter, headspace has been extremely busy across our portfolios of Education and Training, Community Awareness, Youth Services Development Fund and the Centre of Excellence.

headspace is pleased to announce that 20 new headspace services will be opening soon in many regions. Grants of up to $1 million were provided to each of these communities to establish youth-friendly, community-based health services for young people. Young people in these areas can expect to receive help at a headspace service for a range of issues including; general health, education, work, mental health and drug and alcohol.

On the 9th of April 2008, Kate Ellis, Federal Minister for Youth unveiled headspace’s new help-seeking website – www.headspace.org.au
This new website will be the first point of call for young people experiencing mental health and drug and alcohol problems in communities across Australia, and a reliable, easy to access source of information for family and friends.

headspace recently joined forces with National Youth Week (NYW) to offer 10 lucky people the chance to win some great prizes.
NYW is the single largest celebration of young people on the Australian calendar and has been run annually since 2000 as a joint initiative of the Australian, State, Territory and Local Governments.

headspace Mid North Coast are making inroads into their local community by conducting a range of awareness activities. Using innovative local strategies which include local sponsorship and grants applications, headspace Mid North Coast are engaging their community and profiling their headspace service.

SPET is headspace’s Service Provider Education and Training program, which is jointly managed by the AGPN and the APS. The role of the SPET Team is to train headspace staff on how to effectively deal with young people, which is vital to the success of headspace services across Australia.

The first 18 months of operation was a very busy and exciting time for headspace. As a way of highlighting our achievements and core activities throughout this period, we have developed our inaugural ‘Establishment Report’.
