headspace comes to town...

headspace is pleased to announce that 20 new headspace services will be opening soon in the following regions:

• Canberra, ACT
• Mt Druitt, NSW
• Central Sydney, NSW
• NSW Central West, NSW
• Hunter, NSW
• Riverina, NSW
• Central West Gippsland, VIC
• South West Victoria, VIC
• Peninsula, VIC
• Northern Melbourne, VIC
• Riverland, SA
• Murraylands, SA
• Gold Coast, QLD
• Southern Downs, QLD
• Townsville, QLD
• Fraser Coast, QLD
• Northern Tasmania, TAS
• Fremantle, WA
• Kimberley, WA
• Central Australia, NT

Grants of up to $1 million were provided to each of these communities to establish youth-friendly, community-based health services for young people.  Young people in these areas can expect to receive help at a headspace service for a range of issues including; general health, education, work, mental health and drug and alcohol.

The services will allow young people to access a variety of staff including General Practitioners, Allied Health, Mental health, Youth workers and Drug and Alcohol workers, all of whom have specific experience in working with young people. The headspace services will be run locally by organisations that understand the needs of the community.

headspace is proud that it was able to fund an unprecedented number of rural and remote services through the Second Funding Round, to address critical shortages in these often neglected regional areas.
